Care & Functional Support within the Disha Curriculum
1. Focus on Activities of Daily Living (ADL) : Under Disha, special educators tailor learning goals using Individualized Education Plans (IEPs). These include essential self-care skills such as using the toilet, eating independently, and other foundational ADLs—especially for individuals with more profound disabilities. This ensures practical, day-to-day functional independence is supported.
2. Multidisciplinary & Holistic Support: Through the Jai Vakil Foundation, the architectural backbone of Disha, students benefit from holistic services—including medical, therapeutic, occupational, and educational support—especially in schools affiliated with the foundation. This is designed to address both learning and care needs.
3. Respite Care Support (“Respite Care” Units): According to impact data from Jai Vakil, their programs include a Respite Care component—part of their care-based ecosystem. In 2022–23, approximately 73% of goals for adults with severe or profound intellectual disabilities showed improvement under Respite Care interventions, which support both the individuals and their families.
